As is well known, carnivorous plants need little to no fertilizer and can even die if you fertilize them with regular plant food (see also our care tips). However, to make young plants such as Sarracenia seedlings grow faster, a small amount of fertilizer can be used. Also, for plants in a location where they never catch anything, a very small amount of fertilization can give them a boost. For carnivorous plants going into winter dormancy, do not fertilize later than early July.

We do not use fertilizers on adult plants ourselves, but we use this coated fertilizer when cultivating young Sarracenia plants by mixing the fertilizer into the soil. After testing various types of fertilizers, this one came out on top in terms of effectiveness and ease of use. An ideal alternative to Maxsea.

This fertilizer comes with instructions on dosage for carnivorous plants. Coated fertilizers can be used in various ways for carnivorous plants:

• Mixed into the soil
• Directly into the pitcher, for example with Nepenthes and Cephalotus
