California Pitcher Plant
Darlingtonia is the only pitcher plant found on the west coast of the United States, in both California and Oregon. This carnivorous plant often grows along streams in soils that are poor in essential nutrients. Its common name is cobra lily because, with a little imagination, the traps of this carnivorous plant resemble a cobra poised to strike. Thanks to the runners the plant produces, they can fill large containers very quickly if given the space. Unlike Sarracenia, they prefer a cool location and can also grow perfectly in partial shade.
