Sarracenia oreophila
Sarracenia oreophila is native to the states of Alabama and Georgia, among others. Unfortunately, it is also one of the most endangered carnivorous plants in the United States. The name oreophila comes from the Greek "oros" meaning mountain or hill, which immediately indicates the natural habitat of this species. The plant grows in the wild on acidic sandy soils. The pitchers grow to about 40 cm in height. There are two varieties: var. oreophila and var. ornata. The first variety primarily has yellowish-green pitchers, and the second variety has strongly contrasting veins on the pitchers. The inside of the pitchers can sometimes also turn light red.
