Venus flytrap
Of all carnivorous plants, the Dionaea muscipula, or Venus flytrap, is probably the best known due to the rapid closing mechanism of its traps. Once closed, it is virtually impossible to escape. Along the edges of the trap, there are teeth that interlock. Between these teeth are nectar glands that attract the insect. In the middle of each leaf there are a few trigger hairs, and if these hairs are touched twice by an insect within approximately 20 seconds, the trap closes. If an insect is then caught in the trap, the trap will seal completely, after which the plant releases digestive fluids to digest insects such as flies.
