Tom Netjes verpakt en zelfs meer dan één plantje, bedankt voor de extra plant!
The most famous carnivorous plant thanks to its fast-closing traps: the Venus flytrap or Dionaea muscipula! Each trap has three trigger hairs on each side, and if these are touched twice within 20 seconds, the trap closes!
This is the plant where most hobbyists start. The Venus flytrap is without a doubt the most famous carnivorous plant in the world, and honestly: it remains fascinating to see those traps in action. This is the 'Typical' variant, which simply means it looks as nature intended.
How does it work?
The inside of the traps is full of nectar that attracts insects. As soon as a fly or spider touches the sensitive hairs in the trap twice, the trap snaps shut in a fraction of a second. The plant then begins to digest its prey. Don't worry: it takes a lot of energy for the plant to close the trap, so "teasing" it with your finger is not such a good idea.
Why this plant in your garden?
The most important rules:
It's not a difficult plant, as long as you stick to two golden rules:
No tap water: It will truly die from that. Only give rainwater, distilled water, or osmosis water.
Full sun: The more light it gets, the redder the inside of the traps will become, and the stronger the plant will remain.
Summary:
Traps: Fast-closing 'jaws' with teeth.
Location: Sunny windowsill or outdoors in a bog garden.
Water: Always wet feet (in a saucer of rainwater).
Nutrition: Never fertilize! The plant catches its own snacks.
The perfect plant for anyone who wants something special that also helps against flies.
The plants supplied can be either plants with upright traps or more compact plants.
