New Zealand Sphagnum moss (Spagmoss)
Sphagnum Petal Besgrow
This Sphagnum is dried and consists of loose, fine tips without stems or long strands. Before use, place the moss in shallow water to allow it to absorb moisture.
Petal is the finest form of Besgrow sphagnum: only the soft, fluffy tips of the plant, without the long threads and stems found in Classic, Premier, and Supreme. Therefore, this type is not suitable as a loose growing medium in a pot, but is ideal as an additive component in soil mixes. The Besgrow brand has been known for years among carnivorous plant growers, orchid growers, and collectors of special houseplants as a brand of excellent quality. The moss is harvested from fields managed by Besgrow itself, ensuring that it can be harvested in a sustainable and renewable manner.
Why Petal?
Due to the absence of long strands, Petal blends much more evenly into a substrate than regular sphagnum. You won't get clumps or threads that disrupt the structure of your mix, but an airy, even distribution that increases the moisture retention capacity of your mixture without making it compact. That's why it is widely used in mixes such as ABG mix, terrarium and vivarium substrates, and as an additive to potting soil for small or shallow-rooting species such as Utricularia, Drosera cuttings, and Pinguicula.

Is this living sphagnum moss?
Essentially, this is dried moss used as an additive component for substrates, where it is not necessary for the moss to be alive. Because Petal consists only of tips and no stems, there is less chance of regrowth than with regular sphagnum, but we cannot guarantee or exclude this.
