Sarracenia x moorei "Crazy Train"

The story behind it: Crazy, but that's how it goes! This plant is named after the famous metal song by Ozzy Osbourne. Its dark purple colour reminded us of the typical purple sunglasses Ozzy often wore. Also, this song was played several times a day on the way to visit English grower Matt Soper, where the plant was selected from a large batch of seedlings.

What makes it special? The combination of red-dark purple with white at the top, with clearly defined veins. This plant ideally needs to be in a greenhouse to develop its colour and requires some time to do so. It is not the fastest grower, but it is currently one of the best plants for crossing. This makes it highly sought after by serious collectors. Those looking for a good and easy-growing plant for a bog garden would do better to choose a different plant.

Characteristics:

  • Height/Size: 40 - 70 cm
  • Appearance: Red to purple with a white lid, strong veins on the lid.
  • Growth habit: Moderate vigour.
  • Care requirements: As much direct sunlight as possible; preferably in an unheated greenhouse.
  • Hardy: Can be kept outdoors with proper preparation.

A special plant, whose genetics will be incorporated into future crosses! In terms of size, it is not the most spectacular plant, but its unique colour combination makes it a highly desirable plant for breeders.
