The most popular Sarracenia ever: Sarracenia x moorei 'Leah Wilkerson'
If there's one plant almost every enthusiast owns, it's the 'Leah Wilkerson'. This natural hybrid between S. flava and S. leucophylla has become a true classic, and for good reason.
What makes her special?
It's primarily the combination of color and size. The traps can easily reach 90 cm, making her immediately stand out from the rest. The top of the pitchers turns a beautiful white with deep red veins, while the 'throat' often retains a striking yellow-green hue. She is a strong grower who catches a lot of insects and flies in the summer.
The story behind it
The history of this plant is quite remarkable. She was discovered by Brooks Garcia in a swamp on Ms. Leah Wilkerson's property in Florida. While many hybrids are created in a lab, this was a purely natural find that simply turned out to be much more beautiful and larger than what was known at the time. The plant has also been used in many crosses, such as the well-known Legacy. So, if you want to make your own crosses, this is also an ideal plant!
Height: Can grow up to 90+ cm tall.
Appearance: Large white hoods with strong red contrast and a yellow glow.
Hardiness: Like most Sarracenias, perfectly suitable for outdoor keeping (with proper care).
Placement: She loves as much direct sunlight as possible; that brings out the best colors.
A reliable, impressive plant that truly forms the basis for any serious collection. No fuss, just a very good Sarracenia.
