Het is een complexe kruising bestaande uit (leucophylla x flava) x purpurea wat ook de unieke vorm verklaart. De kruising voor deze bekerplant werd reeds in 1985 gemaakt in het Verenigd Koninkrijk door Alan Hindle en in 1993 werd de plant officieel geregisteerd. Vele jaren later is deze trompetbekerplant nog steeds één van de meest populaire vleesetende planten.
