Once closed, it is virtually impossible to escape. Along the edges of the trap, there are teeth that interlock. Between these teeth are nectar glands that attract the insect. In the middle of each leaf there are a few trigger hairs, and if these hairs are touched twice by an insect within approximately 20 seconds, the trap closes.
